UMI Courtyard

Saunas and Yoga Room at UMI hotel

Introducing "UMI Saunas and Yoga Room" at UMI Hotel, inspired by the Japanese meaning of "sea" or "ocean." Instead of enclosing the space with fences, we designed a captivating courtyard, surrounded by three volumes, echoing Japanese aesthetics.

Taking inspiration from Japanese culture, the courtyard's design evokes tranquility and harmony. For the exterior, we utilized the traditional Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, using burned wood to enhance its visual appeal and durability.

Inside, the saunas boast an exquisite interior design curated by Sandra Dis Innanhússarkitekt, creating an inviting and soothing atmosphere for guests. The yoga room, along with the private and public saunas, offer unique experiences with breathtaking views.

One sauna provides a captivating panorama of the majestic glacier Eyjafjallajökull and the surrounding mountains. Meanwhile, the other sauna overlooks a serene river, immersing guests in nature's beauty. The yoga room offers a breathtaking view of the vast ocean, creating a sense of connection with the sea.

Upon entering the courtyard, guests are shielded from the views, creating an element of suspense and anticipation. As they step into the saunas and yoga room, they are greeted with the awe-inspiring panoramas, heightening the overall experience.

UMI Saunas and Yoga Room at UMI Hotel seamlessly combines Japanese-inspired design, the beauty of Shou Sugi Ban, and carefully curated interior spaces to offer a unique and unforgettable retreat. It's an oasis of relaxation and rejuvenation, celebrating the harmony between architecture, nature, and the human experience.
